WILTSHIRE

Contract Name:
Porton Inubator Unit, Wiltshire
Contract Value:
£8 million
Architect:
DVA
Client:
Wiltshire Council

Rydon was appointed to construct the first building of the Porton Science Park in Wiltshire along with initial infrastructure. The Science Park is planned to comprise of up to 15 buildings and will support the many operations carried out within the Porton Defence Science & Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and Public Health England (PHE).

The building is situated outside of the Government operated facilities yet close enough to have day to day involvement.

The actual building is in two halves, which will accommodate incubator units let out by Wiltshire Council. These units will generally be formed to individual company requirements with office and laboratory spaces.

Each laboratory fit-out will be developed specifically to end user requirements.
The building will have suitable welfare accommodation to support occupancy including kitchens, canteens, toilets, changing rooms and lift to access both floors. The overall building fabric will be concrete frame supported with sky coloured cladding which in turn will blend into the background of the area.

Rydon was chosen for this project because of our adaptability and sensitivity. This was demonstrated in our approach to the design and development process which had to consider the fact that the final occupancy levels have not been confirmed and will require continual development during the construction process.

The proactive nature of the Rydon team ensures the team works very closely with the Architect, Structural Engineer and the client to identify issues as early as possible and continue to provide support throughout the project.
